The department has CT, MRI, Ultrasound, DXA, Fluoro and DR on site. We have an extremely varied caseload which can cater to most subspecialty interests. Those considering a career in Breast Radiology, Interventional Radiology and those interested in doing lots of Barium Enemas need not apply.

We are a unique department in that we are based in a community Hospital but with the imaging resources of a small DGH. This lends itself to a dynamic forward thinking way of working. We are extremely cohesive, and get along well with local clinicians in primary and secondary care. We have strong links with University Hospital Southampton, with a region wide integrated PACS/RIS system.

We offer greater autonomy than larger departments and are exploring new ways of flexible working including home reporting. Our waiting lists won’t induce despair. We are a very well-regarded Radiology department based at Lymington New Forest Hospital. This is a purpose-built facility located in the heart of the New Forest.  It currently provides a wide range of outpatient clinics, inpatient acute medicine, rehabilitation and day case surgery. There are two main operating theatres, a day case theatre and a busy endoscopy unit.  Lymington is an attractive town situated on the south coast and is well known for its sailing facilities. It is surrounded by the New Forest National Park, part of the South Hampshire Coastal area of outstanding natural beauty and is close to both Southampton and Bournemouth with good road, rail and air links.

This is a replacement post to join the two established full-time Consultant Radiologists and 2 part time radiologists and contribute to the provision and further development of the busy, dynamic and expanding Radiological services across the New Forest. Some 66,000 radiological examinations are currently undertaken per year. In addition, the post holders will provide support to the inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services with access to MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, DXA and plain x-rays. There are no out of hours commitments.

The successful applicants will be expected to contribute to the General Radiology in the Department, including Musculoskeletal Imaging. We offer CT Colonography on-site and have also established Multiparametric Prostate MRI and Small Bowel MRI Enterography services. The applicant will be welcome to contribute to these services and also further develop his/her interests. Thanks to the generous support of the local League of Friends, equipment is of a high standard. There are 3 modern general x-ray rooms employing Philips Digital Diagnost 3.0 DR systems, a digital fluoroscopy room Philips MultiDiagnost FD Eleva system. They are currently running a scanner appeal that replaced our CT scanner for a Canon, Aquillion Genisis this summer, the ultrasound equipment will be replaced over the next few months and the MRI scanner is due to be replaced over the next 2 years.

The Hospital is fully equipped with SECTRA PACS including a completely integrated RIS (HSS CRIS). The PACS and RIS systems are fully synched with those at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Trust (UHS), as well as with the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trusts as part of the SWASH consortium.

We offer the traditional pattern of working hours but would also be interested in exploring any alternative arrangements of mutual benefit, and would be happy to explore part-time working for the appropriate candidate. This post will liaise closely with Tertiary Radiological Services based at Southampton General hospital (UHS Foundation NHS trust).

Lymington New Forest Hospital is an important inpatient and outpatient centre providing a broad-range of community based services with very close links to the local GP groups. Our local large tertiary referral centre is University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust, with which we have strong links. The post holder will liaise closely with Radiology and other clinical services in Southampton. Applicants should have CCT or be on the GMC’s Specialist Register. Applicants who are within six months of obtaining their CCT on the date of the AAC may also apply.
