Consultant Radiologist with an Interest in Breast Imaging

We are looking to recruit another Consultant Radiologist with a sub speciality interest in breast imaging to join our high quality, dynamic Breast Unit at Northampton General Hospital. We are a progressive, forward thinking department with a strong multidisciplinary team approach which is integral to the delivery of excellent patient care in Northamptonshire. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved with and shape the future expansion and direction of this service.

The Breast Service offers symptomatic patients an integrated one stop service alongside a widely respected and successful screening service. We support a breast screening population of @60,000 women in central and west Northamptonshire. This is provided by a static unit with 2 mammography units and 2 mobile screening units. We are currently undergoing a procurement programme and are replacing all of our equipment with new digital mammography units including Tomosynthesis and contrast enhanced spectral mammography capability within the next three months. We have recently purchased a new Bard EnCor Enspire vacuum biopsy system. We are a proactive department with a true 4 tier staffing structure and encourage advanced practice. The post holder will work alongside two breast clinicians, a consultant radiographer, three advanced practitioners and four breast care nurses. The surgical team offer oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery. We are looking to recruit a fourth surgeon.

The Trust is investing in new equipment and has a robust replacement system to ensure that we have up to date equipment. We have two 1.5 T Phillips MRI scanners with a dedicated Breast MRI coil and three CT scanners (2 newly installed). We also have a fixed PET – CT scanner.

We encourage role extension throughout the Radiology department, so in addition to consultant colleagues, you will be supported by a dedicated team of reporting and imaging radiographers.

Whilst no on call is expected for this post, we would encourage the post holder to maintain a wider radiology expertise in the delivery of other general radiology modalities, with the opportunity to participate in the on call rota if desired. We are rolling out a programme of placement of PACS workstations at home to allow the ability to report off site as well.

There are excellent opportunities for private practice within the region.

Northamptonshire offers a high standard of living and schools with beautiful villages and surrounding countryside. It is a university town with theatres, museums and sporting arenas such as Silverstone, Saints rugby, Steelbacks cricket and the Cobblers football team. There are also opportunities for golf, sailing, water sports and horse eventing. There are many cultural events including open air music and food festivals. There are excellent travel connections with easy access to Birmingham and London.

We aspire to create an excellent, sustainable service in collaboration with all our partners. We would encourage full or part time applications.

If you would like to further explore what we can offer you, please contact Dr Davis Thomas, Clinical Director on 01604 523756 or Dr Chhabi Pal, Programme Director, Breast Imaging on 01604 545869 for an informal discussion and to make a time to visit us.

Previous short-listed applicants need not re-apply.
