Consultant Radiologist – Gibraltar

Job Expired

More Information

Applications are invited for a Full Time General Consultant Radiologist to join our existing team of three Radiologists in providing clinical care at Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA). This is a new post to meet increasing demand for all radiological services.

The Radiology Department is well set up to provide a modern and comprehensive radiology service, with two ultrasound rooms, a 128-slice CT scanner (Phillips, installed Aug 2015), two fluoroscopy rooms, one mammography room and two general x-ray rooms. There is currently no local MRI facility; MRIs are sent to us via PACS from a nearby imaging centre.  However, the GHA is looking at options for local MRI service provision in the near future.

The post holder will be expected to provide general radiological services including plain film, ultrasound, CT and MRI reporting. A subspecialty interest in MSK imaging is desirable but not essential and other subspecialty interests are therefore also welcome to apply.  This is a great opportunity to contribute to the provision and further develop and influence the rapidly expanding Radiological services in Gibraltar.  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the on-call service, with a 1 in 4 commitment.  A standard week would consist of 8 sessions of direct clinical care and 2 sessions of supporting professional activities (SPAs).

Applicants must hold full registration with the UK General Medical Council, with a licence to practise and must be on the Specialist Register.

Gibraltar is a British dependency at the southernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula, easily reached in just over two hours (flying time) from the UK. The Gibraltar Health Service is organised and modeled on the UK NHS and follows traditions of British medical practice.  Gibraltar offers an attractive standard of living with a good work life balance.  It is well located for travel to and from the UK via its airport with links to London and other UK airports.  Malaga airport is just over 1 hour’s drive and offers further extensive links to European destinations.

The above appointment is offered on a fixed-term contract of three years with a possibility to extend further. Salary, dependent on experience, ranges from £107,777 to £132,984 per annum.  In addition the post holder will be paid a sum of 10% of the basic salary for undertaking on call duties and a supplement of 8% of the basic salary in order to provide cross cover of colleagues, for whatever reason, up to a maximum of ten weeks per year.

Passages are payable and transportation of personal effects and accommodation is susbidised.

Informal visits and enquiries are welcome. Please contact the following for an informal discussion: Dr Christopher Rodriguez (Clinical Director of Radiology) via email

Application packs may be obtained from the Human Resources Department, Gibraltar Health Authority, St Bernard’s Hospital, Gibraltar Tel: +(350) 20072266 ext 2084 or email:
