Applications are invited for the posts of Consultant in Diagnostic Radiology and Consultant in Interventional Radiology in Tayside.

Diagnostic Radiology

We are seeking a candidate for general diagnostic radiology duties to develop a wide range of specialist interests working within multi-disciplinary teams and to provide a quality service.

The jobs plan may be adapted by agreement to most specialist imaging interests, including: Chest Imaging, Musculoskeletal, Nuclear Medicine and Paediatrics.

The post is based in Ninewells Hospital with sessions in Angus (Stracathro Hospital and Arbroath Infirmary) or Perth Royal Infirmary. Currently the diagnostic radiology on-call frequency for this post is 1 in 16. A separate on-call rota for Interventional procedures is provided by Tayside Interventional Radiologists based in Ninewells Hospital.

Interventional Radiology

We are seeking a candidate for interventional radiology with general radiology duties.

There is 1 replacement post available with illustrative job plans of 10 programmed activities: 8 Direct Clinical care sessions; one SPA session and a further SPA session of agreed supporting professional activities or direct clinical care according to candidate’s preference. Clinic time is available in the Direct Clinical Care activity.

The post is based in Ninewells Hospital with sessions in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, Fife. Currently the interventional radiology on-call frequency for this post is 1 in 6 based in Ninewells Hospital. The Interventional Radiology unit in Tayside is a BSIR exemplar site.

There are excellent opportunities to develop interests in teaching or research with close links to the University of Dundee, which has a Clinical Research Centre with 3T MRI scanner and a 128 slice CT/PET scanner, based at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School. Tayside imaging is fully electronic and part of the Scottish National PACS. Modern high quality equipment is present throughout Tayside with four 64-slice CT scanners, four 1.5 Siemens MRI scanners and 7 high specification ultrasound scanners across Tayside.

There are 2 fully equipped Interventional Radiology suites in Ninewells and 1 interventional Radiology suite in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

Tayside has a training scheme for radiology registrars rated as one of the best in the UK by the trainees and by examination results. There are currently 15 trainees.

These posts are a full-time, however, anyone wishing to work part-time will be considered.

Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT or CESR(CP) at the time of interview for the post. Interview date is 25 October 2017.

1. Length of Service E

To have obtained CCST or CESR(CP) or be within 6 months of accreditation at time of interview for the post, and be eligible for the Clinical Radiology Specialist Register.

2. Qualifications E

Accredited by relevant Committee

Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists or European Community equivalent.
3. Advanced clinical training and experience E

Experience of all the Clinical Radiology Sub-specialties associated with a modern teaching hospital. Capable of fulfilling duties of post without significant further sub-speciality training.
4. Teaching experience

Experience of teaching desirable and an interest in this is required.
5. General experience E

Comprehensive general training in Clinical Radiology.
6. Particular requirements and/or areas of special interest

Demonstrable interest and practical experience in relevant imaging techniques.
7. Research and publications

To have exhibited reasonable achievement with documented evidence of research projects.
8. Management training

Desirable, but not essential for the post.
9. Interpersonal Skills E

Ability to work as part of a radiological team.
Drivers Licence
A car is not essential but a driving licence is desirable especially for jobs with sessions at Stracathro Hospital. Pool cars are available. A bus travels between Perth Royal Infirmary and Ninewells Hospital.
