Situated within the University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering department, patients can take advantage of one of only a handful of open coil, weight-bearing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners in Greater Manchester. Manchester Metropolitan University is one of only a few centres in the UK to offer this kind of specialist equipment outside of a private hospital setting

 

The University has decided to widen access to the technology by making its Tesla Esaote G-scan 0.25T MRI Scanner available to private and NHS patients.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

We have a great opportunity for a HCPC registered qualified and experienced MRI Radiographer. The candidate’s primary role will be to conduct all private MRI scanning and liaise with the radiologist. They will take an active role in liaising with organisations to further develop commercial opportunities. In addition to cooordinating the smooth running of the scanner, they will be responsible for training technical and other staff/PhD students to ensure that the service runs safely. The candidate will also contribute to research activities within the Musculoskeletal Science & Sports Medicine Research Centre by supporting scanning activities for research projects using the MRI scanner, as well as the associated DXA and pQCT scanners, thereby gaining research experience and potentially co-authorship on scientific and medical journal papers. Full training for use of DXA and pQCT will be provided.

 

  • Perform MRI examinations to produce high-quality images potentially including contrast media
  • To take responsibility of health and safety in the work area, including quality assurance
  • Supervise visiting and support staff, and patients within the work areas.
  • Provide support and reassurance to patients, taking into account their physical and psychological needs
  • To act in accordance within the Radiographers Professional Code of Conduct at all times, HCPC standards also need to be met to ensure registration is maintained.
  • To ensure requirements of IR(ME)R 2017 and Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR2017) are met.

Candidates must be HCPC registered and hold an appropriate qualification in MRI such as a PgCert with previous MRI experience and be comfortable with scanning a wide range of examinations. In addition, ideally you will be trained in IV Cannulation.

This is a 2 year fixed term contract.
