Consultant Neurovascular Interventional Radiologist

Job Expired

More Information

This is a new Consultant Neuroradiology post required to support and develop Neuroradiology services based at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust (SRFT).

This job description is intended to cover the main points of the post only. Applicants are invited to enquire regarding any points about which they may be unsure.

The successful candidate will join a team of 11.5 WTE Neuroradiology Consultants, including 3 contributing to neurovascular intervention. In addition, we have a Consultant Neurovascular Surgeon who also contributes to neurovascular intervention.

You will participate in the neuroradiology on call rota at 1:11 intensity, with provision for remote imaging review. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in the weekend neurovascular intervention service at a frequency of 1 in 5.

This post is required to support the existing service in the face of increasing demand for cross sectional imaging and neurovascular intervention including the development of intra-arterial intervention for stroke.

There is a well-developed Neurointerventional radiology department, with a high-quality biplane Toshiba endovascular suite in the radiology department along with another single plane Toshiba suite which has vascular capability. The successful candidate will be participating in the routine and emergency Neurointerventional service.

Participation in the Sunday coiling service is expected. There is planned expansion in intraarterial stroke intervention over the next few years and the successful candidate will be part of intraarterial thrombectomy service.

Individuals would be supported to develop their areas of interest in this field.

You will participate in the provision of neuroradiology services across Greater Manchester and may be required to provide some sessions off site. We currently provide hub-and-spoke activity to two neighbouring NHS Trusts to support their neuroimaging service, and have links with many others in various forms of service provision, including the neuroscience and spinal ICATs (Integrated Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service).

As the regional neuroscience unit, we provide local and regional services for neurooncology, spinal diseases, stroke, neurodegenerative, skull base, ENT and trauma.

We are designated a Major Trauma Centre and a Comprehensive Stroke Centre (CSC), and are home to one of the largest skull base services in the country.

We also provide services to the nationally commissioned Neurofibromatosis type I (one of the two national centres) and type II (one of four national centres) services.

We have close links with The Christie for oncological work.

Through the North West PACS portal, we are able to provide immediate specialist opinion on neuroimaging to support the vast network of hub-and-spoke neurology services throughout the Greater Manchester conurbation and extending into Cheshire and Lancashire.

The Radiology Directorate at SRFT provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic, therapeutic and interventional examinations. The post holder will be joining a team of 29 Consultant Radiologists with a wide range of special interests.

Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust are working together under the leadership of Chief executive, Sir David Dalton to establish a Group model where local NHS organisations will share a governance framework to reduce variations in clinical practice, accelerate improvements in patient outcomes and also improve productivity.

This provides exciting opportunities for collaborative working, including radiology, to work efficiently, grow our capacity and improve quality.

In line with the Trust’s Single Equality Scheme we welcome applications from everyone irrespective of ethnic origin, disability, age, gender, gender identity, sexual preference, disability, nationality, religion, marital status, social back ground or trade union membership. However, as members of ethnicity minority groups, individuals with disabilities and women are currently under-represented at this level of post, we would encourage applications from members of these groups. Appointment will be based on merit alone.
